Class Absences & Lateness
Attendance is compulsory and will be taken by the programme office for all core classes.
If you don’t attend then you do not contribute and learn. You must attend at least 80% of each course. Being absent will result in the loss of participation points and failure of the course in some cases.
For students on Tier-4 visas it is extremely important that you attend class to fulfil your visa requirements.
Lateness will not be tolerated. It is disruptive and is a class issue, not an individual issue!
The programme office will arrive at the lecture theatre to take attendance 15 minutes before the start of the course
and will stay until the class begins.
Faculty will start their classes on time and late students will not be permitted into the class until after the break-
no exceptions.
Extenuating Circumstances
Absences* or late assignment submissions will only be authorised if students have an Extenuating Circumstance.
*Absence from an exam or a lecture where there is a graded element (i.e. in-class quiz). You do not need to submit an EC for general class absences.
The School defines extenuating circumstances as 'unforeseen and uncontrollable circumstances outside of a student's control which have a negative impact on a student's academic progress'.
It is important that you inform the programme office if you believe you are experiencing extenuating circumstances that meet the above definition as soon as possible.
The School acknowledges that cultural and individual approaches to the disclosure of personal information can vary but expects that students will disclose all matters that may have an adverse impact on their academic progress, in order for the School to provide appropriate guidance and support.
The link to submit ECs will be available in August.
